After years of asking and begging, you have finally agreed to allow your children to have a pet that will complete the family unit. Before you rush out and buy the first dog that melts your heart with it’s (ahem) puppy dog eyes, there are a few things to know. Make sure that you do your research and agree on a size and breed before you look at the first puppy (if that is what you choose to get), and remind your children that you have the final say on what is and is not acceptable and that any arguments will equal no dog for that trip. It might actually be a better idea to look at several dogs and then have a family meeting to discuss everybody’s choice before the final decision is made. Be sure that everybody is on the same page before heading out to avoid tantrums. If you want Dog Teaching advice check out the Dog Teaching site.

Most experts agree that a child should be at least five years old before a new pet is introduced into their lives, before that they may not be able to understand the concept of playing nicely, or may be afraid of the dog for whatever reason. Remember, a new pet and fear never mix well. Observe your children with other people’s pets, or take them to a pet shop or shelter for a practice run. Do they pet the dogs calmly and slowly, or do they grab and lunge? Remind your child of how a dog likes to be approached, and why they need to follow this rule: this is a set in stone rule, no exceptions!

After you are confident that your child is actually ready for the next step, consider a few things about your families personality, lifestyle and availability. Are you a busy, on the go family with many, many outside interests, or are you a stay at home, nesting type family? If both adults work, and the children are gone at school, how will you handle all of that alone time with your new, furry bundle of joy? Will you crate train your puppy, or will you consider a doggy day care? Consider how needy a breed can be before you look at them, what good is a loving, little lap dog if there is never a lap for him to snuggle on? If you have found yourself packing on the pounds, get a sturdy, mid size breed that will not only be your best friend no matter what, but will joyfully exercise with you as well. Knowing that you have to walk the dog will motivate you- no one wants to do the bloated waddle around the block with their playful pooch dragging them along. If this is a second pet, to serve as company for an established dog, consider an older dog, ideally from a shelter. Not only will you have the satisfaction of knowing that you have saved a life, an older dog will generally have less of the biting, hyper issues of a new puppy, making it easier for the established dog and the family. Introduce the two slowly, and let them define the parameters of their relationship. Most shelters encourage you pre-adoption meetings, so consider asking if you can bring your pet in to meet the prospective new family member and remember, not all dogs will fall into instant (dare I say it?) puppy love.

So why do men love radio controlled trucks?

First of all, these crazy toys can reach speeds of up to 70+ mph with the right tweaks, fly through the air, and even do acrobatics with the proper controls!

It meets every guy’s fantasy for speed, power, and wildness! I mean haven’t you ever wanted to drive like an absolute mad man with no repercussions? To go crazy and experience the adrenaline and blood pumping that comes from the experience of living on the edge?

Of course you have! Everyone has wanted to throw caution into the wind and be in the moment. Your RC truck lets you do just that as you climb over impossible obstacles, roll down treacherous terrain and somehow keep going, all the while with the engine roaring urging you on!

So listen, when us guys aren’t thinking about women and we aren’t in our chill mode, we absolutely love thrills! We’ll take it in whatever form we can get it. We love to live vicariously through the pounding of boxing, excitement of extreme sports, and vast worlds of video games.

Sure, some guys have lost their desire on some level and will settle for pushing the pencil around in the office. But, for the majority of men out there, we want our power back, even if the first step is to just control a crazy machine that reminds us of what it feels like to be exhilarated!

All guys on some level have this desire to experience the possibility of our power, freedom, and greatness.

What does this have to do with radio controlled trucks? Everything. Just controlling these dirt eating speed demons reminds us what it feels like to be alive!!!

Remember when you were little and it would be FUN when it rained because there would be mud puddles to jump in? Remember? Remember when you didn’t care whether you got dirty or injured and just played your heart out?

RC Trucks will help you remember the feeling of the world being a playground that somehow got boring between school and getting a job. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Once you get the feeling back, who knows what you’ll go for!

In my opinion, anything that reminds us of how alive we can feel can add to our lives, not to mention just plain old silly fun. What’s not to love?

Whether you are a parent who has been considering the education of your child, or you are merely in a place where you are curious about how children may be best educated, you will find that one learning method that you should explore is that of the Montessori schools. Montessori children’s schools are named after Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian educator whose theories were formulated at the first half of the century. While many schools will call themselves a Montessori school, and they may do so proudly, there are things you should keep in mind. While a school may say ‘Montessori’, it may have a loose definition and with no standards for using the name Montessori, you will find that the standards and method of teaching may vary greatly from another Montessori School.

When you are looking at traditional public school, you will find that you are in an environment where children are sat down and given material to work with. They may find that they are in a place where they are learning about numbers and words and history that have no relevance to them and that they need to assimilate regardless of that fact. Montessori schools encourage learning in children by focusing on their current interests. In a Montessori school, you will find that a child will be spearheading the learning, while the teacher will be there to guide them on their study and to suggest new ways that they might approach it.

You can expect Montessori schools to be very proactive and engaging during the evaluation process. There is a strong emphasis on coming up with a theory and then heading out to test it, and as a result, you will often see a lot of implementation of the prospects that are being taught at this point. The Montessori method says that a child learns most in bursts of focus and concentration. During this point, the teacher is in fact very hands off and will allow the child to work ahead on their own.

This method of teaching is based off of the Montessori method, which states at its core that children are capable and interested in learning on their own. According to this method it is more important for teachers to watch the child learn than to provide direction.

By watching the child’s behavior during activities and observing what he or she likes to do, the teacher can assess the skills that the child needs to work on and formulate ways to teach to those needs. When looking for Montessori schools you will usually find elementary and junior high schools. Even though the Montessori high schools are a bit rare nowadays, still they do exist.

One reason that you will see so many Montessori elementary schools and middle schools is due to the theory that states that a child has a very absorbent mind from birth to the age of six. According to the theory children have endless drive to learn and to grown and to acquire specific skills and knowledge.

When you take into consideration all the aspects a child needs to learn at his age, like sitting up,walking, reading or counting,it can easily be seen why it is like that. Children of this age are extremely impressionable to learning from their surrounding culture - if they are encouraged to pursue these interests at a young age, it can become a life-long habit.

Examining the Montessori teaching principles will show you the multiple benefits of such an education for your child, not only academically but personally. The child is taught first hand that he or she will be rewarded for thinking on their own and coming up with their own solutions. Also, they have to be taught to continue forward in their curiosity and to work on their problems head on. This is something that will serve them quite well later in life. They will understand how to find solutions and to work on their own.

There are a lot of things to take into consideration if you think you might be interested in a Montessori school. Look into schools yourself and know how their type of Montessori operates; there’s a world of good you can do for your child!

Have you heard that old expression, “He could make a silk purse from a sow’s ear?”

If you haven’t, my apologies, it’s kind of a weird expression. But it does make a point, at least in regards to this article. And that point is…if you’re good at your craft, you can take the most over used statement and make it seem new again.

When I was a kid I had a poster hanging on a wall in my room. It was one of many to be sure. But this particular poster was one of my favorites. It was a picture of the Nobel Prize winning physicist, Albert Einstein. His elderly head full of thick white hair, was in complete disarray. The caption under the picture went something like this…Hair, it’s not the style that counts, it’s what’s under it. From a writers perspective, the caption could read something like this…Writing, it’s not the words you use, it’s how you use them.

Yes, there is power in the pen. A quote out of the Bible, from the book of proverbs states, “The written word is more powerful than any physical weapon.” The more modern translation, and the one most of us are familiar with states, “The pen is mightier than the sword.”

So what’s my point in all of this? My point is simple. It doesn’t matter if a thing has been written about a thousand times before, you can still use words to make that tired old subject seem new and refreshing.

I’ll use a real world example to make my point. Let’s take a look at some stories written by published authors and stories written by amateur writers. Yes, these are western short stories. Not a real popular genre, but that’s my point. A person can take any genre, story or situation, no matter how many times it’s been written about, and with the power of the awesome pen, make it seem new again.

The stories written by the published author, Tom Sheehan, on the site you just went to or will go to, is a perfect example of what can be done with words. Tom Sheehan knows his craft. He has learned how to take an ordinary situation that has been written about a thousand times and write it out in a fresh new way. He not only writes well in the western genre, but also in poetry, and other genre as well. How does he do that? He understands words and he knows how to use them to his advantage.

This is something we all should strive for. If you writeshort stories, writing well will bring you more readers, and if your ultimate goal is to sellad space for profit, you have to learn how to write well. After all,
if the written word is indeed more powerful than any physical weapon, your very survival depends on it.

A number of people are aware that the volume of people in the US alone living in gated retirement communities or guard-gated communities is about 8 million. Many even believe that one out of 8 Americans prefer to call it his home. Interestingly, more and more people are joining the ranks of happy community dwellers every day. Security, privacy, a lot of amenities, planned development, and community maintenance are just some of the reasons why people are going for this kind of community.

Members need to have security passes in order to enter a gated private community, while visitors would require a line or two in confirmation. The security measures in these gated communities are usually of a very high nature, complete with CCTV monitoring and security guards. This is what sets the gated communities apart from traditional housing units. Aside from this, they also boast of luxurious, modern homes, meticulously monitored residential streets and planned common areas that include community parks, benches, postal mail centers and others that all make them great places to stay.

Members enjoy a great deal of prestige and happiness by living in a gated private community for seniors. It is because of this that different kinds of people can be found here. Many retired men and women can be found here who have consciously decided to make these communities their new home. Whether you plan to spend a lifetime here or just a few days, you will always have a great time.

Solar panels can now be installed in residential homes, letting users greatly reduce their electric bill and do their duty in preserving the environment through the use of the renewable solar energy Although this technology gives countless of benefits, people are still hesitant to use this mostly because of the installation fee and its functionality.

Factors such as site location, house orientation, obstructions to the sunlight and the weather must be considered in setting up solar panels Even when these considerations aren’t optimal, there are solutions enabling you to utilize solar energy to power your home. The effectiveness of your solar panel depends on the amount of sunlight it receives, needing about six hours of constant sunlight the year round Solar panels work best if they are installed in an angle of orientation facing the sun.

Solar electric power, which use photovoltaic cells in converting solar radiation to electricity, and solar thermal energy, which uses the sun’s energy to heat up water are the two types of solar power

A good solar hot water panel system is able to provide an average household with around a third of its annual hot water supply. At first glance, this may not sound much but it can cut back energy cost by considerable amount With the integration of solar panels in addition to this hot water system, plus the addition of other renewable energy sources such as residential wind turbines, they can all work together in providing a renewable, cheap and clean source of energy for your home.

Another concern for homeowners would be the large home solar panels would be an eyesore on their roofs Photovoltaic panel designs, thanks to the latest technology, are now smaller and more compact. Today, these panels would look like ordinary roof tiles, only with the functionality of a solar panel; they can keep out the sun and rain, and with the ability to convert solar energy into electricity, helps out in cutting back electricity budget

One advantage of solar powered home systems is that energy can be stored in battery packs and chargers, so energy sources are still available even during fall and winter, when there are shorter periods of sunlight.

While it is possible for a household to run completely off photovoltaic electricity using solar panels, this is unlikely in most cases The costs involving the installation for a whole house with electricity from solar energy would be quite high for the average homeowner. It is preferable to use solar panels together with traditional power supplies It is much more cost-effective and energy-saving than depending on fossil fuels alone. Although this will not cut back your dependence on fossil fuel, the use of solar electricity in the average home can still provide a substantial amount of electricity, reducing future energy bills
Installation fees can be expensive, but with the constantly rising utility rates, having a supporting source of energy for your home is a good investment. Not only does it protect you from price hikes and power outages, but you will also be protecting nature by using a clean and unlimited source of energy. Solar energy can lower your fuel costs, particularly when used in conjunction with home wind turbine systems.

Are you the consummate holiday decorator? Do you make a unique statement with your decor at Halloween? My nephew showed us all that you can innovate on the spookiest of occasions. Each Halloween, my sister and a neighbor stage a friendly competition over who can convert their own homes into the coolest haunted house. This past year the winner was my nephew who decorated my sister’s house in a distinctive and original way.

My nephew created an Addams Family house crossed with Castle Dracula. He hung plastic bats in each of the rooms, including the chandelier in the living room. He also used fake spider webs (sold in party supply shops) to spin webs in every spare corner and through the banisters of the staircase. Then he added paper skeletons in odd poses in even odder places. One skeleton seemed to be taking a stroll into my sister‘s bedroom and others peered out of corners, the basement stairs, and even the TV!. The final touch was a ghoulish paper skeleton grinning at each visitor to the front door from behind the living room sofa.

The kitchen was also transformed into a witch’s lair. He put skillfully carved Jack O’Lanterns around the room with tea lights for a ghostly glow. The witch herself, a paper cutout, was hung next to the mop, which was decorated to resemble a witch‘s broom! There was a bubbling pot placed on the stove top to simulate a witch’s cauldron. He even got permission to borrow my niece’s black cat figurine to complete the look. The overall effect was that of a witch cooking up a creepy potion in her kitchen.

But my favorite theme was the one he came up with for my niece‘s bedroom. She has a wonderful collection of splush animals, with plush toys all over her room. She has stuffed cats, dogs, rabbits, monkeys, teddy bears and more in her menagerie. Instead of hiding all of her cute pals, my nephew incorporated them into his theme. He used white handkerchiefs with holes for eyes to transform some of the plush animals into phantoms and ghosts. He hung them from the ceiling with straps to make them seem to fly about the room. My niece has a stuffed raccoon with its own natural mask that he made more villainous with a plastic knife and a bike chain. He remade several of the animals into vampires with the addition of fake fangs. The best was a teddy bear in a black cape with sharp white teeth made from paper to transform it into a menacing bloodsucker!

My nephew won the haunted house competition hands down with a little creativity and ingenuity. I can‘t wait to see if he can outdo himself next year! Who knows what he has in store for my niece’s stuffed bears, who may become zombies, aliens, or whatever else he can imagine. There are lots of ways to get creative with what you already have to create an awesome Halloween sanctuary. So have some fun, get creative, and make you own haunted mansion!
